Going Back To School At 50 – It Doesn’t Have To Be Hard!

13

Some people may think going back to school at 50 is silly, but, in reality, it’s a popular choice. In fact, older students have become the fastest growing demographic at colleges around the country. Whether you want to switch careers, finally get your degree, or just learn something new, going back to school at 50 can be a great choice.

But if you’re thinking of going back to school at 50, you need to do your homework long before your get to the classroom. After all, you’ll be competing with the new generation. Learn about all of the admission requirements. Figure out if you need financial aid. And ask yourself if you want to take classes online, or if you’re interested in physically to community college or a four-year university.

When it comes to going back to school at 50, many older students have some fears, especially older women. For older women, going back to school can mean that you’re the “mom” figure in class – the student who is actually older than the professor, and the one who causes other students to get quiet and start minding their manners.

But for many older women, going back to school is important enough to overcome any fears. Some women simply want to graduate, after giving up their degrees long ago to get married and have children. Or, they want to change careers. Or, they just want to learn something new now that the kids have grown up and moved out.

If you’re an older student who is thinking of returning to community college, many schools are making it easy for you. The American Association of Community College has created a “Plus 50” learning program. Participating schools are learning how to meet the needs of older students by helping them with their computer skills, helping them apply for financial aid, and even helping them locate old transcripts.

And, if you’re thinking about becoming an older student, you don’t have to let money become one of your fears. There are plenty of grants for going back to school, including:

-Many individual colleges offer special grants for students who never went to college after high school
-There are Veterans’ grant programs if you spent time in the military
-Federal Pell Grants are available for students of any age; all you have to do is meet certain income requirements
-There are grants geared towards older women going back to school, whether you already have a degree or not
-Many cities and towns offer special grants for older students, so check with counselors at your school to see what opportunities exist.

The Homeschooling Mom Needs To Socialise Too!

7

When parents make the decision to home school their children, their primary concern is usually the lack of opportunity for their children to mix with other children on a regular basis. This is also one of the main criticisms used against homeschooling by it’s opponents. However, parents, too, can be affected by the lack of socialising opportunities. Many lifetime friendships between mothers have been formed at the school gates. Waiting for the children to emerge gives mothers a great opportunity to chat and discuss school, bringing up children and all life’s little and not so little problems. Becoming involved with PTA committees and functions, as well as volunteering to help in the classroom and with school trips, means that over the thirteen to fourteen years a child may be in school, you can get to know a lot of other parents and teachers. When you homeschool your children, you aren’t presented with these same social opportunities, but you needn’t miss out and become a social hermit. For the homeschooling mom, there are still a variety of social situations out there waiting for you. Many of them are family oriented and can be included in your lesson plans. Better yet, several are low cost or free.

Join a homeschool group in your area.

These groups are very popular and located nationwide in many countries. As well as providing a support network to homeschooling families, they sponsor all types of social gatherings and educational field trips. If there is not a group near you, why not organize one yourself. You’ll make great connections with other parents who homeschool.

Join an online group.

You can build friendships and be sociable’ in Cyberspace. An added bonus of online groups is that you will come in contact with moms from not only all over the United States but internationally as well – great for planning those geography and language lessons.

Teach a class to other homeschool moms

If you have a useful skill or interesting hobby, teach it to other homeschooling parents. It could be a purely recreational class or something educational, which parents can convert into lesson plans.

Teach in the community.

Take the class idea one step further and teach it at the community education level. Most school districts offer enrichment classes on a abundance of different subjects. Not only will this option afford you the chance to interact with your peers, it will also give you the opportunity to earn extra money.

Volunteer with your children.

There are many not for profit organizations which allow families to volunteer together.Animal shelters, nature reserves and soup kitchens are examples of family friendly’ organizations that are always on the lookout for volunteers. In addition to helping a good cause, you will be meeting and socialising with others.

There are plenty of social opportunities for the homeschooling mom. Whatever you choose to get involved in, make time for your own social life and you will be a happier, well adjusted home school mom with lots to offer your family.

Is it your dream to attend a prestigious Italian University?

If it is, you will need to learn Italian or else it will be very hard for you to pursue your field of study. If you want to specialize in Medicine or Architecture, all Italian universities require you to take and pass an entrance exam. This is an exam that you can easily face if you have a knowledge of both the Italian language and the technical terms that apply to your area of study.

Scuola Leonardo da Vinci has been teaching Italian and preparing foreign students to take their entrance exams for many years. We understand that in the beginning it can be overwhelming to have to take an exam that is not in your first language and that is why we have designed a special course help you prepare for it.

-The University Preparation Course for Medicine or Architecture- that includes 4 daily lessons of Italian language preparation that can last from 4 to 24 weeks depending on your language knowledge at the moment of enrollment and 140 lessons of preparation to admission test.

This course carefully focuses on the main subjects that the entrance exam will require you to know. We also pay special attention to grammar and sentence structure, because the exam will evaluate an individual’s correct usage of Italian.

So your preparatory course will consist of two phases. The first phase is dedicated to linguistic training and the second phase is dedicated to reviewing material that is specific to the student’s particular field of study.

By the end of the course students will have acquired a good knowledge of Italian language and the necessary linguistic skills to study for the entrance exam, pass the entrance exam with sufficient results, and to face their first year of Italian university with confidence.

Renting a House for Students

11

If you are a student who goes for learning abroad, then the primary things that you will need to concern for yourself is finding houses for rent. Your living accommodations will make a big impact on your education, and you need to make sure that you take the time to find the best housing for your needs.

If you’re fortunate enough to live at home with your parents during your education, that’s great. However, for those who are striking out on their own, choosing a rental house is going to be important. You can find your options in many different ways, depending on what you want and need.

Some people search for house on rent by first searching for flat mates. If you can’t afford to pay the full price for a rental, it’s often easier to find other people seeking mates or a house to live in. In this case, you can often pair up or find a couple of flat mates and then go forward to find a house together.

Many students stay at university and college hostels during their first year. This is a great way to first familiarize yourself with the education facility you are studying at. It also makes new friends whom you can group together with to find a rental house during your second and subsequent years.

After all, it’s much easier to know what you can afford when you have your flat mates already picked out. Alternatively, you can also find a house that you can live in that is already occupied by people looking for another flat mate.

If you’re searching for a house of your own or houses to rent with others, you will need to make sure that you consider a few things besides the cost of the home. What you can afford is very important; but it is not the only deciding factor. You should also consider the location to your education facility, nearby public transport if you don’t have your own vehicle.

Some houses will rent by the week or month while others will want to let them for a year at a time. Additionally, it is a good idea to draft a budget before you commit to a particular place. Also think about how much money you will need for food each week. This financial exercise will give you a good estimate of what you can afford. You should also consider the other expenses so that you can estimate your expenditures beforehand.

About author: The Author Sumit Gurg is a prominent real estate guru and offers guidance to people looking for house on rent as well as writes for a variety of real estate magazine and publications.

Study Guides – Are They Helpful

16

Have you ever purchased a study guide that promises to teach you the the great and amazing study secret that no one has ever heard of? In most cases, this type of hype does not carry any real content or any fulfillment to the many promises they make. Hence, It will be my intention today to try to guide you on how to find out the real study techniques that lead to success in your studies. First of all, let me start out by this premise:

There are no real short cuts or secrets to gaining knowledge, it’s a matter of hard word and patience. Hence the saying: Patience might be sour but its result is sweet. Although there are no (or very few) real study secrets, there do exist certain study techniques that will make your studying a whole lot easier and even more effective. As you yourself might know, there are numerous ways of studying and I can’t compel you to choice a certain way that doesn’t fit you, hence I strongly urge you to do the following:

No matter how you learn the best (by visual experience, kinetic etc) make sure that you do not change horses in midstream concerning the way you learn, ie do not flip flop between different learning approaches. This will inevitable confuse you and may even worsen your study results in the long run. Remember that studying a small amount of information each day on a long time period is several times better than studying an immense amount of information over a short time frame. Contingency is a vital component in your studies, never forget that!

This article was not written in order to spell out all the thousands of different study techniques found under the sun but in the hope of making you realize that one can systemize the way one studies and that this change really can make a difference. Therefore, I urge you once again to sit down and reflect for a moment; how do you learn the best? Be sure to write down your answers and review them with your self and see if you can make any general conclusions, you might be stunned to see that you might have had a bad approach for too long.

Conference Brings Educators, Students and Businesses and Organizations Together for Career Minded Hispanic and Latino Students

6

This years annual conference sponsored by Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and Advancing Hispanic Excellence in Technology, Engineering, Math and Science (AHETEMS) will bring together educators, students, and leaders in government and industry. The purpose of this summit is to advance scientific and technical education, career paths, and life goals for a variety of Hispanic and Latino students across the United States.

The annual conference held by SHPE and AHETEMS will be in Cincinnati, Ohio, October 27-31, 2010, at the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza and the Duke Energy Convention Center. The conference will include a Deans Summit, an Educators Forum and ample opportunities for undergraduate, graduate and high school students to learn about scholarships and internships to advance their learning opportunities and professional growth in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

In the “Rising Above the Gathering Storm” report, the National Science Board (NSB) raised concerns about statistical data that indicates a “troubling decline” in the number of U.S. citizens who are studying and training to become scientists and engineers. The NSB projections show that the number of jobs requiring STEM skills is growing at more than four times the rate of the U.S. labor force as a whole. To complicate matters, the present workforce employed with federal agencies that focus on scientific professions is readying for retirement. In 2010 alone, 71% of the U.S. governments permanent employees in STEM fields will be eligible for retirement and 40% are expected to exercise this option.

Since a huge number of professionals in the STEM fields are due to retire, high profile government agencies are interested in properly preparing bright and motivated students for successful STEM careers. The foundation for a successful career begins in high school, college, and graduate school. At this time especially, the opportunity is ripe for organizations such as SHPE and AHETEMS to provide the necessary funding and mentoring to improve career opportunities in high paying fields for Hispanic and Latino students. Over thirty years of working to advance Hispanic and Latino students opportunities has shown those who are traditionally underrepresented in these lucrative and well-respected professions flourish when financial, study, and career opportunities are introduced.

This annual conference is a unique opportunity for Hispanic and Latino high school students who are focused on careers in technological fields to see what college is all about, prepare for SATs, learn how to write effective essays, and obtain a wider view of the jobs available in the technical fields. High profile government agencies, such as NASA and the Department of Energy, participate in this conference. Representatives from these and other agencies and companies attend this conference to speak directly to students aspiring to work in scientific and technical fields and study at colleges and universities across the United States.

The Most Important Tool in a Students Study Arsenal College Textbooks

20

Studying in college is clearly one of the most vital tools a student has, to achieve their goal of a degree. Textbooks are the most important tool in a student’s study arsenal. Without securing the necessary books, a student risks falling behind and failing to do his best.

Securing books prior to the start of the semester is the best move a student can make. Professors often assign work right from the very first class, and delaying the purchase of books can be a devastating error. Thankfully, several avenues exist for procuring the necessary textbooks. Purchasing textbooks is a solution that works for many students. Being able to use the books for reference even after the conclusion of a class is appealing to many students. If a student opts not to retain the book, buyback programs will help the student recoup some of their costs at the end of the semester.

Other students choose to rent their textbooks. Renting allows a student to have the necessary book for the semester, but doesn’t require the cash outlay that buying a book would. It is also environmentally friendly, as books are returned to the textbook company, rather than possibly ending up in a landfill.

Once the necessary materials are secured, the student is ready to meet their educational goals. A students methods of study will greatly influence the outcome. Students should ask themselves the following questions when setting up their study plan of action: -How do I learn best? -How will I be asked to recall the information? -When do I do my best studying?

Some students find outlines to be the best study tool. Others prefer flashcards. Some find discussing the subject during a study session with other students to be most beneficial.

Studying for an essay test is very different than studying for a multiple choice exam. Knowing what type of exam is being given will aid the student in choosing their study methods. If the exam is essay form, outlining answers to some possible questions will provide a handy framework. Outlining class notes and careful review of the text is often vital to preparing for any exam.

All night cram sessions can work, but most students do best with a more moderate study schedule. Larks and night owls each need to find a study schedule that works with their biological clock. Steady sleep schedules will go a long way toward college success.

Academic success is an important goal, and the right materials, study skills, and rest, will aid any student in their quest.

Chiropractic Marketing Teacher Appreciation Programs

11

In our school district, the teachers all have a $1500 yearly max benefit. Their out of pocket cost in our office was $400 each. The total we collected on each teacher was $1900.

If you take $1900 X the 35 teachers that got started with carewe made a cool $66,500 from just two Teacher Appreciation Programsand thats not including what we did from referral marketing and the other forms of marketing we doyes, it was a good summer.

I share this with you not to make it all about making money, to brag, or to make it sound like Im better than you (because Im not)and in no way shape or form am I even implying that. I share it with you because this is one marketing strategy that you cannot fail at! and I want you to do one of these programs so you can be extremely profitable too!

However, there is an upside and a downside to a marketing strategy like this.

The Upside: The great thing about a chiropractic marketing strategy like this is that once you get into a school, you can go back to that school over and over again, all year long if you want to! Some schools have as many as 80-100 teachers (not including the staff) and youll usually only be able to reach a maximum of 25 teachers per Appreciation Programwhich means you can go back 2-3-4 times before you reach “ALL” the teachers. (and the schools will want you to come back because they wont want any of their teachers to miss outas a matter of fact, the teachers will actually beg the school principle to bring you back again) and you can expect to schedule a least 80% of those teachers as patients.

The Downside: The downside is thismost schools will only allow 1 chiropractic office per district to do these programswhich means if you dont jump on this immediately, some other chiropractor in your area will, and youll be left standing in the cold, wondering “Why didnt I act sooner?”

This stuff works, it’s highly profitable and its easy to do!
